How to Pass the Louisiana Real Estate Exam in 2026

The Louisiana real estate salesperson exam is administered by Pearson VUE and regulated by the Louisiana Real Estate Commission (LREC). The current Pearson handbook lists 135 scored questions, qualified pretest items, 240 minutes, and a scaled passing score of 70 on both salesperson portions.

Step 1: Complete Education and LREC Authorization

Louisiana requires 90 hours of LREC-approved pre-license education. Initial applicants must complete the current fingerprint-based criminal history review. Apply for LREC authorization before scheduling or taking the Pearson VUE examination.

Step 2: Know the Exam Format

Total Scored Questions: 135

National Portion: 80 scored questions

Louisiana Portion: 55 scored questions

Pretest Items: 10–15 additional items may be included on the combination examination; they are not scored

Time Limit: 240 minutes (4 hours)

Passing Score: Scaled score of 70 on both salesperson portions

First Combined Attempt: $78

Repeat Combined Attempt: $93

Administered By: Pearson VUE

The current authorization is valid for one year and permits unlimited attempts under the current Pearson/LREC process. Follow the current handbook for any portion-retake instructions and appointment requirements.

Step 3: Study the Official Content Areas

Use the current Pearson VUE handbook and LREC materials for national property ownership and land use, transfer of title, valuation and appraisal, financing and settlement, agency and fiduciary duties, contracts, fair housing, real estate math, Louisiana license law, community-property rules, forced heirship, disclosures, and trust-account requirements.

Step 4: Build a Focused Study Plan

Divide study time between the national and Louisiana outlines. Review missed practice questions and verify Louisiana-law details against current LREC and Pearson VUE materials. Keep readiness scores and pacing goals as personal study choices, not official requirements.

Step 5: Prepare for Exam Day

Schedule through the current Pearson VUE Louisiana real estate page and use its live location information rather than a static city list.

Follow the current Pearson VUE handbook for identification, arrival, calculator, note-material, and score-report requirements. Do not rely on unsupported claims about personal calculators, scratch paper, or immediate results.

After passing, follow the current LREC application process and submit the required licensing and background-review materials.
