Texas Real Estate CE Requirements
All Texas real estate licensees must complete continuing education every 2 years to renew with TREC (Texas Real Estate Commission).
Total CE Hours Required
18 hours of continuing education per 2-year renewal cycle for all active Texas real estate sales agents and brokers.
Mandatory Courses
Texas requires specific mandatory courses including: Legal Update I (4 hrs), Legal Update II (4 hrs), and Contract-Related courses (3 hrs). The remaining hours are elective.
Elective Hours
The remaining elective hours can be completed from TREC-approved courses on topics including fair housing, risk management, technology, property management, and more.
Renewal Deadline
Texas real estate licenses expire every 2 years on your license anniversary date. TREC requires all CE to be completed before your expiration date to renew without penalty.

SAE (Sales Agent Apprentice Education) is a separate requirement only for your first two renewals as a new Texas sales agent — it requires 90 additional hours of education beyond the standard 18-hour CE. After your second renewal, only the standard 18-hour CE applies.
