Steps to Become a Broker in Virginia

Meet the experience requirement
At least 3 years of active salesperson experience (36 of the prior 48 months) plus the required transaction activity.

Complete broker pre-license education
Complete the required 180 hours of broker pre-license education from an approved school.

Pass the broker licensing exam
Pass the Virginia broker licensing exam, administered by PSI.

Submit your broker application
Apply through the VREB, pay the required fees, and complete any background or fingerprinting steps. Maintain broker-level continuing education going forward.
