Steps to Become a Broker in North Carolina

Meet the experience requirement
At least 2 years of full-time brokerage experience (or part-time equivalent) to qualify as a Broker-in-Charge (BIC).

Complete broker pre-license education
Complete the required 12 hours of broker pre-license education from an approved school.

Pass the broker licensing exam
A separate broker exam may not be required in North Carolina. Confirm with the NCREC.

Submit your broker application
Apply through the NCREC, pay the required fees, and complete any background or fingerprinting steps. Maintain broker-level continuing education going forward.
