How to Pass the New Mexico Real Estate Exam in 2026

New Mexico calls its entry-level license an Associate Broker rather than a salesperson license. The Associate Broker examination is administered by PSI for the New Mexico Real Estate Commission (NMREC).

Step 1: Complete the 90-Hour Education Sequence

New Mexico requires 90 hours of NMREC-approved education through three 30-hour courses:

Both portions must be passed. If you fail one portion, you may retake only that portion, but both portions must be passed within 90 days of first passing one portion. Otherwise, both portions must be retaken.

Use the current PSI materials for property ownership, agency, contracts, financing, valuation, fair housing, New Mexico license law, community property, water rights, Pueblo and tribal land issues, disclosures, and other current state topics.

Use practice questions to identify weak areas and verify New Mexico-law answers against current PSI and NMREC materials. Keep personal study targets separate from official exam requirements.

Step 4: Complete Current Licensing Steps

After passing, follow NMREC's current Associate Broker application process, including the supported fingerprint, errors-and-omissions, and other licensing requirements. Follow the current PSI handbook for delivery, identification, materials, calculator, and score-reporting requirements.
