Steps to Become a Broker in California

Meet the experience requirement
At least 2 years of full-time licensed salesperson experience within the prior 5 years (or a qualifying 4-year degree with a real estate major/minor).

Complete broker pre-license education
Complete the required 360 hours of broker pre-license education from an approved school.

Pass the broker licensing exam
Pass the California broker licensing exam, administered by State.

Submit your broker application
Apply through the DRE, pay the required fees, and complete any background or fingerprinting steps. Maintain broker-level continuing education going forward.
